Rudra Mudra
1. Create a mantra that you can repeat out loud to yourself. Make sure to have a specific intention in mind as you create the mantra. For the sake of simplicity, letâs say your intention is to get control of your anger. To create this mantra, you must do two things.
⢠Negate the negative state, which, in this case, is anger. Something like, âAnger has no power over me.â
⢠Replace the negative state with an opposite positive condition. Maybe youâll choose something like, âAnger dissolves away easily and effortlessly, leaving me feeling peaceful and content.â
So, for our example, the whole mantra would be, âAnger has no power over me. It dissolves away easily and effortlessly, leaving me feeling peaceful and content.â Take some time on this step. Youâll need to repeat the process for your specific circumstance.
2. Now, close your eyes and scan your body with your mind. Look for the place where your anger is residing. Anger generally is described as a tension or a heat. Some people talk about it as if their chest has tightened up. Others will tell you that they feel their blood boil or they feel âhot under the collar.â The sensation and the location of the anger may be different for you than it is for other people, so pay attention to your own bodyâs natural response to where this emotion is located.
3. Place your hand on that chakra center. It may not be the first place where some sources tell you that anger (or whatever emotion youâre working with) is âsupposedâ to reside. Many people will tell you that rage resides in the root chakra and love resides in the heart, but remember the etheric body where the chakras reside is more fluid and malleable than the physical body. You may be holding your anger someplace else. For example, in step 2, anger could have been in the root, the solar plexus, the heart, or the throat chakra. It just depends on how your body is processing it at that moment.
4. For this specific exercise, perform the Rudra mudra with both hands over the chosen chakra.
5. Now, with your hands in place, see a white light a few feet above your head. Let that light descend through your chakras (first through the crown, then to the third eye, the throat, the heart, the solar plexus, the navel, and, finally, the root). As the light passes through each chakra, say your chosen mantra out loud to yourself and take two deep belly breaths before moving on to the next chakra. When that light gets to the spot where you are holding your hands over the pain, see that light burn that pain away, like a laser beam. See that chakra begin to glow brighter and ignite into flame, burning away the pain. As the pain catches fire within your mindâs eye, see the light transmute it into the positive emotion(s) you chose in step 1. In this case, that would be peace and contentment.
